Planting Bulbs for Spring
You should already have started to plant your bulbs ready for spring, as they will generally take around 8 weeks for the shoots to begin to show. If you haven’t, you will need to plant them ASAP in order for them to grow strong and healthy, at the right time of the year for them. However, do make sure that the bulbs are well protected from the frost and cold weather that will often come in January and February. If you are growing bulbs in pots, you may want to put them out of the way in a garage or greenhouse, and cover them over, so that you can wait for the shoots to appear whilst they are well protected.
If you are growing bulbs from previous years, then you may well have noticed some of them starting to grow already. Snowdrop and daffodils especially are making an early appearance this year, as December was a very mild month.
